The Friends of Stephen F. Austin State Park has a long and storied history of supporting this beloved park. Founded in 1980 as The Friends of Stephen F. Austin State Historical Park, our organization has always been dedicated to the park's well-being. When the Texas Historical Commission took ownership of the Historical Park along the banks of the Brazos River in the 1980s, our Friends Group continued its steadfast support exclusively for the State Park.
The early Friends Group was instrumental in organizing numerous fundraisers, which significantly benefited Stephen F. Austin State Park. Many of the projects funded by our early members are still visible in the park today, serving as a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Today, the Friends group is a rejuvenated and inspired collective of individuals who share a common vision: to help Stephen F. Austin State Park achieve its goals and objectives for the community. Our group includes individuals, families, businesses, and park volunteers, all working together with a shared purpose. Our primary mission is to raise funds to support various projects and needs within the park, in alignment with our mission statement.
We are proud of our history and excited about the future as we continue to work towards enhancing and preserving Stephen F. Austin State Park for generations to come.
