Canis latrans

You can often hear Coyotes yelping and calling in the park at night. They hunt at all hours of the day and night but may be seen more often in the early morning or just before sunset. Coyotes are opportunistic eaters, preferring rodents such as rabbits, mice, and rats, but they will eat almost anything else such as carrion, garbage, fruits, and berries. They have a very good sense of smell. The scientific name is Canis latrans. During the weeks following the birth, the male will bring food to the family, but the female will not allow him inside the den.
