Texas State Parks

Rabbit

Sylvilagus floridanus)

The most common species found in the park is Eastern Cottontail. It prefers dryer areas of the park, like the Barred Owl trail and area behind Screened Dinning Hall. Rabbits are most often spotted along trail edge and road edge vegetation. Did you know that rabbits are very prolific? An adult breeding pair can produce 180 babies in 18 months, since a female can have up to seven liters each year each with four to five babies. Female baby rabbits are capable of breeding after they are only two months old.
