Dasypus novemcinctus.

There are lots of armadillos in the park. They are often active around dusk at the edges of the mowed areas. Although they are omnivores and will eat almost anything their favorite food is grub worms. They have an exceptional sense of smell, but very poor eyesight. If you stand still, they will walk right past you without noticing you. The Armadillo is designated as the official small mammal of Texas

.

The scientific name is Dasypus novemcinctus.
